WWI bomb has been detonated in St John's Bay

Wednesday 24 February 2016

A bomb disposal team has been out on the north coast this afternoon to get rid of a WW1 bomb brought over by the Germans during the Occupation.

The German roll mine, which is about a metre long, was found by a member of the public in a quarry in St John.

A 0.6 nautical mile exclusion zone was set up while the bomb was being dealt with just east of Mourier Bay, and the loop road around Sorel point was closed to traffic.

It's thought the bomb was washed out of where it had been lying during the recent storms.
