Plans to develop car park into rental accommodation submitted

Saturday 06 January 2024

Plans to develop a longstanding private car park of around 60 spaces on Green Street into residential rental accommodation have been submitted, according to the group that owns the site.

The Seymour Hotels-owned zone, which is located opposite Andium's Edinburgh House development, has been a car park for more than three decades.

It was initially used to provide spaces for both private renters and those staying at the former Hotel de la Plage – and later for those living in the apartments that the hotel became, and others in the area.

Last year, it emerged that the site could be turned into 19 one-bed and eight two-bed apartments with amenity space for residents and lower-level parking.

Seymour Hotels Group Marketing Manager Oliver Appleyard said that the land has since been transferred from La Plage Hotel Limited to another Seymour Group company for £2.1m, with the intention to "develop it separately as residential rental accommodation for the local market".

He added: "Accordingly, following feedback from the public exhibition and consultation which took place in July 2022, together with further modifications required to comply with the various supplementary planning guidance notes issued subsequently by the Planning Department, an application for the development as outlined within the article has now been submitted and is presently awaiting registration before being publicly advertised."
