Plans to convert vacant offices to flats

Thursday 22 December 2022

Plans have been put forward to convert vacant offices in town into a pair of two-bed flats.

Developer TS Venton Limited is requesting planning permission to change the top two floors of Calista House on Lewis Street.

The ground floor of the property is currently used as an electrical contractor’s business and it is proposed that this remains.

According to a Design Statement submitted as part of the application, the existing offices on the two upper floors "have been vacant for some time despite undergoing refurbishment in recent years".

"With a lack of interest from businesses to occupy the existing office spaces and Jersey’s limited land supply, the proposal seeks to provide new homes within the first and second floor of the building that can benefit from the existing infrastructure and nearby services and facilities," it reads.

Proposals for the two new apartments include an en-suite bathroom for each of the master bedrooms and storage space.

The application points out that the two homes would be located within an already built-up area and within walking distance of the town centre and People's Park.

It also highlights that there is a public car park on the same road, and the site is a five minute walk to Liberation Bus Station which provides access to all island bus routes.

The proposed alterations to the property are predominately internal and to the rear of the property which is obscured by neighbouring and adjoining buildings.

If approved for redevelopment, the application says the property's exterior will not undergo any significant changes. Insulation will be added to the walls and double glazed windows will also be added to make it more efficient.

The application - categorised as 'Major' - is expected to be decided in January.
