A former Victoria College student was recently surprised to find himself singled out for praise in a livestream by none other than former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

Robert Jones is currently a medical student at Swansea University, and had initially been due to finish his summer deployment as part of the Royal Navy cadets, where he was an Acting Officer Cadet.

However, due to the covid-19 pandemic, he has been volunteering at Morriston Hospital’s children’s emergency unit instead, providing support and assistance to the local NHS team.

In a live broadcast on Facebook last Saturday, former US presidential candidate Clinton singled out Robert and his colleague Samuel Murkin for their efforts, praising the two student cadets for “providing emergency services during the pandemic.”

Robert told Express that “it was an amazing surprise to receive acknowledgement from Hillary Clinton for all the hard work myself and my colleagues have been doing.”

Elaborating on his experience, he continued: "Working in Morriston Hospital during the Coronavirus pandemic has been a challenging yet rewarding experience.

"This unique opportunity has allowed me to develop clinical skills that I will utilise throughout my future career."
