Fashion, feast and fundraising event to support veterans

Sunday 22 October 2023

An autumn-winter fashion show is set to be held next weekend to raise awareness and funding for a mental health service that supports the island's armed and emergency services.

Rock2Recovery, a UK-based mental health service, offers free one-on-one mental health support to those who serve and protect.

For the second year running, a fashion show at The Royal Yacht Hotel will raise funds for the organisation whilst showcasing the latest seasonal fashion trends.

Rock2Recovery aims to alleviate stress and emotions tied to traumatic memories while recognising the difficulties many face when seeking help.

It has worked with almost 200 clients on the island, with the coaches themselves sharing backgrounds and experiences that place them in a unique position to understand the challenges faced by those in the armed forces and emergency services.

Carlie Foster, who is responsible for Rock2Recovery's fundraising efforts, said: “It will be an opportunity to learn more about our organisation and why we're all so passionate about helping those that we support.

"As well as the fun of the fashion show, it will feature great food and lots of good conversation.”

Jacqueline McDermott, who is organising the fashion show, added: "The show will feature gorgeous autumn, winter and Christmas fashions for the catwalk, thanks to the fabulous ladies who have given their time freely."

The fashion show lineup boasts local fashion business owner Kathryn Filleul of By Beautiful Things, and image consultant Helen Morton of Colour Me Beautiful.

A fundraising ball was recently held at the same venue in aid of Rock2Recovery. It featured over 100 attendees, a three-course meal, a charity auction, a raffle, and speeches from veterans.

Carlie praised the ball as "a great evening of stories, fun, dancing and a very successful auction that raised a lot of money that will go directly back into funding the work we do with our clients".

The fashion show will take place on Saturday 28 October from 12:30 onwards. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
