Royal anniversary puts a romantic ‘stamp’ on things

Monday 06 May 2019

As islanders speculate which Royals might be joining Liberation 75 celebrations next year... new stamps commemorating the first wedding anniversary of one of the much-desired pairings have been released.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were married on 19 May last year at Windsor Castle and, to mark their first year of marriage – Jersey Post have issued some new stamps.

The Royal couple, who are now expecting their first baby, feature on the new set of stamps, designed by Up Studio, which consist of photographs taken at notable events throughout year one of their marriage.

One of the photos shows the couple leaving the chapel after their wedding ceremony when the Queen conferred a Dukedom on her grandson, Prince Harry, meaning that when they got married, the pair became Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The other photos on the stamps show the Duke and Duchess heading to their evening wedding celebrations, at the first day of Royal Ascot, during a visit to Dublin’s Croke Park, on the balcony of Buckingham Palace and arriving at Dubbo Airport in Australia on their first major Royal tour together.

The stamps and accompanying miniature sheet are now available to buy from all branches of Jersey Post ahead of the milestone anniversary.

The release comes as local speculation continues to increase over which Royals might be joining next year's Liberation Day celebrations, which will mark 75 years since the island was freed from the German occupying forces.

Deputy Kevin Pamplin, the politician in charge of organising the celebrations, previously told Express he was "confident" that the event would attract a high-profile Royal presence.

The Deputy alluded to the fact that organisers of Liberation 75 are after more than one Royal guest, and hinted that, with the Queen and Prince Charles having previously visited on milestone Liberation Days, fresh faces could be set to appear.

However, he remained tight-lipped about which of the two younger pairs were the current 'favourites'.
