Team's marathon fundraising effort in Berlin for old colleague

Sunday 25 September 2016

A group of Islanders are running the Berlin marathon today, hoping to raise £10,000 for a cancer charity set up by an old colleague.

The runners from Aztec Group will be joining Colin MacDonald Smith as he sets himself the challenge of completing the 26.2 miles for the fifth time.

Mr MacDonald Smith set up "Unite Against Cancer" in memory of his brother Christopher who battled Osteosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. He plans to run the race 17 times in memory of the fact Christopher died at 17 years-old.

Since Christopher passed away in 2012, Colin has raised over £160,000 and has helped fund the Christopher Douglas Smith Masters Scholarship at the University of Glasgow.

The Aztec team have been shaving off people's beards and dressing up to raise as much money as they can before their big run.

You can help the team reach their fundraising target here.
