Sand Street car park makeover means less space for shoppers for a few months

Saturday 26 March 2016

There will be fewer spaces in Sand Street car park next week when work starts to improve the parking in the multi-storey and make more space for parents, disabled drivers and cyclists.

Three levels of the car park will be closed off at a time during the five-month makeover.

More undercover bicycle parking is being created and the amount and size of the parent and child parking bays will be doubled from four to eight, all located together on the fourth floor.

The disabled parking bays will also be made bigger, the floors will be repaired, a new lighting system will be installed and the external safety fence panels will be replaced.

Levels one, 11 and 12 will be closed from Tuesday and Shopmobility is moving to Pier Road car park from Saturday 2 April for a week.

There will be 59 more shopper parking spaces provided in Pier Road and another 75 at the Esplanade while the work is being carried out.
