Sark Summer Festival cancelled

Friday 05 April 2019

A music event that aimed to fill the gap in the Channel Islands' summer festival calendar left by the much-loved Sark Folk Festival has been cancelled.

Organisers of the Sark Summer Festival have sent out an email to all those who had booked tickets explaining that "unforeseen circumstances" and "factors beyond our control" led to the cancellation.

The festival was due to take place on 9, 10 and 11 August this year after launching just last summer, filling a gap in the island's social calendar when the popular Sark Folk Festival took a break. While last year's festival was a success, it seems that wasn't to be replicated this year.

Tickets for the second Sark Summer Festival went on sale in November and organisers lowered the price last month to try and boost sales.

Everyone who bought tickets for the Sark Summer Festival is now being offered a refund.

"A lot of things have conspired against us and left us with no choice," said organiser Simon Couldridge.

Festival organisers are contacting everyone affected by the cancellation: "All of the team are so so sorry to let you down in this way and apologise most sincerely for this."

They hope the festival will be able to return next year.
