Wind and rough seas have pushed the 50th anniversary Willis Towers Watson Sark to Jersey rowing race off the Island’s weekend events calendar.
The popular 19-nautical mile race was to be held today and 250 local rowers were expected to take part. But organisers have opted to postpone the race to July 17 in light of the forecast of rough seas and poor visibility today.
All the competitors were due to set off from Sark's Dixcart Bay, rowing across what can be rough open water to the Paternosers reef where they would have turned and followed Jersey's north coast. By the time the rowers reached the finish line in Bonne Nuit Bay after lunch they would have put in about 19 nautical miles.
