Search for missing man "scaled down" three weeks on

Friday 03 March 2023

The search for Thomas Frost — who was last seen at his parents' home address three weeks ago — is "now being scaled down" and a specialist team of divers are on their way back to the UK after all the key search areas were covered.

However, the investigation remains open and members of the public are still encouraged to "be watchful".

Police have confirmed that any further information that comes to light will be investigated.

The Police Search Divers have returned to the UK today after having completed their designated search areas, including several large irrigation ponds, Val de la Mare reservoir and some coastal areas on the south and south-west of the Island.

The States of Jersey Police say that by "using their divers and sonar equipment, [the divers] have given a high level of assurance that Thomas is not in those areas of water".

Mr Frost — who is 5’10, medium build with greying hair — was last seen at his parents' address, situated on a lane above L'Etacq in St. Ouen, on Saturday 11 February around 22:00.

Police believe that when he left the house, he could have been barefoot, but wearing a crimson t-shirt underneath a navy shirt with white buttons and navy jeans, and that he may also be wearing a light grey hoodie.

Early on in the investigation, a 750-metre radius was established from Mr Frost’s last known location which resulted in 225 search taskings being identified to date including searching buildings and private premises, fields and open land searches and areas of water, all within that radius.

Over the last three weeks, various agencies have joined in the search for Mr Frost.

Jersey Search and Rescue, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, Channel Island Air Search, the Jersey Coastguard, CI Search and the Honorary Police have all been involved. A Police Search Advisor from Guernsey was also brought over.

Searchers have made use of drones, boats, planes and a search and rescue dog.

Despite following up numerous lines of inquiry and receiving several reports of people matching Mr Frost’s description, there have been no confirmed sightings since he left his parents’ house.

Investigation enquiries generated 216 actions, which have all now been completed.

Anyone with information should still call police on 01534 612612, selecting option 2, then option 4.
