The Chief Minister says he’s looking forward to working with the new head of Guernsey’s States to strengthen the Islands’ international relations, health services, housing, police training and financial services.
Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq was elected as the new Chief Minister by Guernsey States yesterday following the resignation late last month of Deputy Peter Harwood. Harwood quit the job over "the risk to the reputation of the office" after Private Eye magazine wrote an article about his roles in the controversial Channel Islands Stock Exchange and the island's financial services regulator.
He won the job in a 22-20 victory, despite the fact that the vote meant that less than half of the States chose him.
Jersey's Chief Minister Ian Gorst said: “I would like to congratulate Deputy Le Tocq on his appointment and look forward to working with him in his new role.
“I am confident that together we can continue to strengthen the productive working relationship that has been established between our governments. This co-operation has already proved beneficial for both islands in a number of areas, including international relations, health services, housing, police training and financial services and I am sure that Deputy Le Tocq will be looking to build on this success.”
Deputy Le Tocq was Guernsey’s former Deputy Chief Minister.
