Karaoke cabbies hitting the streets?

Wednesday 06 July 2016

Cabs and Kararoke may not be the most obvious combination - but one couple is hoping it could be the next big thing for Jersey.

Steve Bouchere and his wife Sharon have just launched ‘Karaoke Cab’ – an all-singing, all-dancing set of wheels that you can hire to sing your heart out in.

The couple, who are both videographers, picked up the cab in Southgate in London earlier this year and since turned it purple and kitted it out with a karaoke machine, microphones, monitors and cameras - all you need for your own private karaoke party. They're already taking bookings for events, but they want a full taxi licence to take it out on the road too.

Steve said: “At the moment we are only allowed to use the Karaoke Cab for stationary use at weddings, parties, events etc. Our clients can either use it simply for Karaoke or we can film all of the guests singing to one or two of the hosts’ favourite songs.

“Then we edit the video into a montage of everybody at the party singing a line or two to the songs. Their voices will be muted but it will look like everyone is singing to the real song.”

The couple hope it won't be long before you'll see it out and about.

Steve said: "We have also had a huge response from people who want to be picked up in the Karaoke Cab and taken to events such as proms and weddings or simply go for a drive around the Island.

“We are currently talking to DVS about getting the proper licences to do this and hopefully we'll get the go ahead to do this very soon.”
