Special Muratti memento to kick off an historic game

Sunday 01 May 2016

Muratti moments from the last 100 years have been passed on to create a special memento to mark this year's historic big game.

A 52-page limited-edition Programme has gone on sale ahead of the centenary Hepburn's Insurance Muratti Vase Final which kicks off at 3 pm on Saturday 14 May.

The special memento features a number of historical articles written by Franck Cusack - the author of the Centenary Muratti book and interviews with past and present Muratti players.

Commercial Director and Muratti Committee Chairman Gavin Fraser said: "I am absolutely delighted that this historic match is being marked by something to commemorate the day.

“The souvenir Programme, limited to just 1,000 copies, has been created with the help of a number of long-established local Island companies, who have been given pride of place amongst our Muratti player interviews, in a number of special feature pages. These company articles provide some wonderful detail about their Island history and their association with sport through the years.

"These companies include Hepburn’s, de Gruchy, Normans, Letto & Son, Jacksons, Capita Asset Services, Romerils, Smith and Williamson, Waitrose, PPS, The Channel Islands Co-operative Society, Ogier, Robert’s Garage, PWC and Voisins department store. Their employees can be justly proud of their involvement.

"History confirms that local stores used to close their doors for the afternoon and allow their employees to attend the Muratti match, the largest crowd estimated at over 12,000, perched high on wagons and trailers to get a better view. Whilst we are unlikely to witness those numbers on this occasion, I can confirm that interest surrounding this fixture has already sold out all of the Grandstand seats and standing tickets are beginning to sell very fast now too.”

You can pick up the Memento programme for £5 as well as tickets to the big match from the Jersey FA office at Springfield from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm or you can email info@JerseyFA.com to order your copy. The Programme and tickets will also be made available to schools across the Island as part of the Muratti Schools Project.
