St. Brelade's Bay among top British beaches

Tuesday 26 February 2019

It's a favourite for many islanders, but it appears to have taken the hearts of travellers too: St. Brelade's Bay has been named among the top three beaches in Britain.

Trip Advisor announced the third place accolade, which places the bay just behind Dorset’s Bournemouth Beach and Scotland’s Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris, this morning.

Travellers’ Choice Beaches award-winners are determined based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings for beaches on TripAdvisor gathered over a 12-month period.

St. Brelade's Bay received over 1,480 'Excellent' reviews, with one traveller writing: "Everything you need in one beach."

Other reviewers described it as "stunning", "beautiful", "charming",  and "especially spectacular at sunset".

While St. Brelade's Bay's popularity tends to peak in the summer, travellers also noted it can be enjoyed any time of the year.

Louise Ashworth, Head of Marketing at Visit Jersey commented: “We are delighted for St Brelade’s Bay Beach to have been recognised by travellers as one of the best beaches in the UK. St Brelade’s Bay is one of the island’s most popular beaches, loved by visitors for its soft sands, palm trees and safe swimming.

"In Jersey you’re never more than ten minutes from the water’s edge, so it’s easy to find the perfect space to unwind.

"We look forward to welcoming more visitors to discover our beautiful beaches this summer.”

Second place in the UK this year went to Scotland’s Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris, which also comes in 12th in Europe, climbing four places from 16th last year.
