St. Ouen's Bay café applies to open surf school and shop

A popular food kiosk in St. Ouen’s Bay has applied to open a surf school and shop next door.

The Line Up Café at Le Port has applied to Planning to install one “extendable shipping container” to north of the café.

Line Up owner Nigel Oxenden-Wray said, if approved, the temporary container would be placed on an existing hardstanding area where a mobile structure housing a surf school used to be, which had had a permit to operate.

An RNLI lifeguard cabin also used to stand where Mr Oxenden-Wray wants to open the school and shop.

“Surfing is in my blood and I want to see kids taught properly; not only how to surf but also the etiquette and rules of respect that keep everyone safe,” he said.

“I want to provide a decent service to locals and visitors alike to a high standard, so that customers have the knowledge that they are dealing with experts in their field.”

Mr Oxenden-Wray added that the details of who would run the surf school and shop would be finalised if and when planning permission was given.

The Planning application shows that one side wall of the proposed container is designed to unfold and a double-glazed frame then slides out to cover the extended floor.

It is also planned that the timber sleeper screen at the back of the café will be extended around the container.

The café sits within the Coastal National Park, an area which has the highest level of protection under the Island's planning law.
