Tamba Park's plans delayed

Friday 04 August 2017

Tamba Park’s expansion plans have been delayed by the Planning department.

Owner of Tamba Park, Jonathan Ruff, has submitted three planning applications to expand his tourist attraction.

The first application is for a three-bedroom house onsite for the park’s manager and the other two seek permission to knock down the existing glasshouses to build parking and accommodation facilities.

In the current applications, Mr Ruff has asked for permission to create a ‘Holiday Village’ which will consist of 14 three-bedroom and 13 two-bedroom self-catering accommodation units on the land currently occupied by large greenhouses. Permission to create additional parking has also been requested.

According to Mr Ruff, who founded the Tamba amusement chain in 2016, the Planning department want to see all of the plans he has for the site in one application rather than three before permission is either granted or denied.

Mr Ruff has come up against public criticism after announcing his ambitious plans to turn Tamba Park into “…the biggest indoor entertainment area since Fort Regent.”

In response to the negative comments he has received based on these applications Mr Ruff said: “You’re always going to get some people objecting to this kind of thing, but all I’m trying to do is to create jobs and bring tourism to Jersey.”

Commenting on the effect the delay will have on his business, Mr Ruff said: “Everything is going to carry on as usual, but it will just hit my pocket in the meantime. It’s taking longer than first expected and I just want to get started on it!”
