The Government has confirmed that it will be offering free covid tests to all university students travelling with Condor over the next week.

The ferry provider announced on Monday that it would require negative tests 72 hours before travel amid the rising case numbers in the UK to ensure continuation of service.

A Government of Jersey spokesperson told Express: “Following Monday’s announcement by Condor Ferries that passengers must now have a negative PCR COVID-19 test within 72 hours before travelling, the Government has agreed to offer testing for university students returning on Condor Ferries to the UK to study.

“This will be in place until Friday 15 January.”

However, for students flying back to the UK, this precaution will not be necessary, as Crown Dependencies are exempt from the UK Government's recent announcement that all incoming travellers would have to have a negative test 72 hours before arrival.

A spokesperson from the UK’s Department of Health and Social Care said: “The policy was released this morning at 00.01 and the Crown Dependencies will be exempt from a negative test requirement as they are within the Common Travel Area.”
