10th anniversary boat show wraps up today

Monday 01 May 2017

This year's Barclays Jersey Boat Show will end later today with organisers hoping the weather returns to something similar to the sunny opening day on Saturday.

After a very wet Sunday that kept the kids zone closed and prevented HMS Mersey, the highlight of this year's show, from coming to Jersey.

Jersey Boat ShowThe weekend started off on a good note with hundreds of visitors looking at the many yachts anchored in the marina. Sadly, the Saturday sunshine didn't stick for the Sunday.

Once again today, the pontoons will be open between 10:00 and 17:00. Although the main Royal Navy ship won't be there, the Gispy Moth IV, the yacht in which Sir Francis Chichester sailed around the world in 1966 is anchored in Jersey for the weekend.

Visitors will also be able to step on the Christiana, a former Norwegian rescue boat which is on a 12-month Seed Journey to Istanbul as part of a project set up by the artist collective Future Farmers.

Local talents will be playing on the main stage, No Strings Attached between 12:30, L is M between 14:00 and 15:00 and Take This between 15:30 and 16:45. The band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Commando Training Centre from Lympstone, East Devon, will then be playing at 19:30 in Victoria College Great Hall to finish off the 10th anniversary.

Last admissions on the pontoon will be at 16:45.

As the Boat Show celebrates its tenth anniversary, money raised during this weekend will go to three charities that spell out the word ten:  Teenage Cancer Trust, Eyecca and NSPCC. Last year over 13,000 were raised for Mind Jersey.
