A Gorey beach café's annual fish finger sandwich fundraiser – which was started in memory of a beloved family member – has generated more than £6,000 for a local food bank.
Each year Rhona’s at the Beach chooses a local charity to benefit from the proceeds of sales of its fish finger sandwiches and cake.
Rhona Hewit, who runs the café, started the initiative after she lost her nephew to suicide, spurring her to raise money for the Jersey Recovery College.
The café sold thousands of fish finger sandwiches in 2022, raising £4,871.50 for Healing Waves, and chose the Grace Trust as its charity partner for 2023 due to the cost of living crisis.
Announcing the grand total of more than £6,000 raised this year, the Grace Trust praised Rhona and her team for their help.
The charity said it would like to give the café "a ‘Big Thank You’ for all your fabulous fund raising over 2023", adding that it will "go a long way in supporting needy islanders".
"As a charity we continue to see increased demands on our foodbank, and tangible support like this helps the charity help others," the Grace Trust said.
