A beloved Gorey café is set to celebrate two decades of providing fish finger sandwiches and bacon rolls to islanders with a beach party organised by a local charity.

Enable Jersey has organised a beach bash to mark 20 years of Rhona’s at the Beach.

Owner Rhona Hewitt has raised almost £55,000 for several local charities since she opened the kiosk in 2005.

The café owner selected Enable Jersey as this year’s beneficiary and has so far raised over £5,000 for the charity which supports and advocates for islanders with disabilities and their families.

Enable Jersey wanted to thank Rhona for her efforts by organising a beachside birthday party at the café next weekend.

CEO Sean Pontin described Rhona as a “true community champion”.

“I can’t thank her enough for her support and generosity, but I can show her how much she means to the community and celebrate her twenty-year milestone by throwing her a party,” he said.

Reflecting on her two-decades on Gorey Coast Road, Rhona said: “What a journey it’s been.

“Full of sunshine, storms, amazing staff, and the most wonderful customers anyone could ask for.”

Rhona’s Beach Bash will take place between 15:00 and 19:00 on Friday 8 August.

Islanders can bring their own buckets and spades, and enjoy family beach activities, pizza and Rhona’s famous fish finger sandwiches – the proceeds of which will go to Enable Jersey.
