Guernsey’s States has been blamed for scuppering plans to run a trial inter-island ferry service.
According to Jersey’s Minister for Economic Development, Tourism Sport and Culture, Senator Lyndon Farnham: “After Guernsey confirmed that they were unable to identify funds to support their share of the possible underwrite for the trial we continued discussions with Condor to see if there was any way of the trial going ahead this summer. Regrettably this has proved impossible given the changed logistical and financial implications".
Senator Farnham says he’s disappointed but remains determined to improve inter-island passenger links as they’re important not only for developing both islands’ economies but to maintain social and cultural links.
To achieve this he’ll be continuing discussions with Condor and the States of Guernsey regarding the possibility of running a service next summer.
CEO Condor Ferries, Paul Luxon said: “Condor have worked with both islands authorities over the last few months to develop an inter-island day trip service trial and had finalised those arrangements ready to commence at the end of May, sadly however Guernsey's Committee for Economic Development's late decision to withdraw from the Project, has resulted in the project now having to be deferred, in spite of efforts by Senator Farnham and Condor to revise a Jersey only based service”.
