Jersey's largest ever children's choir is preparing to join two international artists for a big sing song at Fort Regent tonight and tomorrow night.

The 'Jersey Sings' concert features 1400 young singers who will be performing alongside sporting soprano Laura Wright and well-known jazz star and vocal percussionist Randolph Matthews as well as local singer Danni Le Feuvre and a seven piece band.

The young singers are from 24 schools across the Island and the event will feature medleys, songs from the shows and ballads, and all conducted by David Lawrence.

The event has been organised by local charity Music in Action and tonight will be the first time the children have come together as one choir.

Caroline Buchanan from Music in Action said: "The choirs have all been rehearsing remotely. We provided everyone with CD's and soundtracks to learn their words and the first time they will come together is on the actual day of the concert."

700 children from D'Auvergne, Grainville, Grouville, Janvrin, JCG, La Moye, Le Rocquier School, Mont Nicolle, Progressive School of Music,Samares, St Lawrence and Youth Arts will be performing tonight.

Tomorrow night it's the turn of another 700 children from Bel Royal, De La Salle, FCJ, Grands Vaux, Haute Valle, Mont a l'Abbe, Plat Douet, Rouge Bouillon, Springfield, St Peters, Trinity and VCP.

The charity plans to make Jersey Sings an annual event.

Caroline said: "Music in Action believes everyone should have the opportunity to be involved in events which support the development of musical education in the island.  Studying the arts allows children to learn and think creatively and we feel this event is perfect for encouraging them in this respect."

The concerts start at 7 pm. Tickets cost £20 for adults and £5 for children and you can get them here.

Laura Wright is the official anthem singer for the England Rugby Team and has performed at both Prince Harry’s Invictus Games where she debuted her self-penned “Invincible.” Her debut album 'The Last Rose' topped the UK Classical charts, making her one of the biggest selling classical artists this decade. The 25-year-old sang Happy Birthday to the Queen at last Sunday’s celebrations.
