Two people treated in hospital after dryer fire

Monday 19 February 2018

Two islanders have been taken to hospital to be treated for breathing in smoke following a tumble dryer fire in block of St. Helier flats.

Two fire engines and an ambulance were sent to flats in Grands Vaux after the Fire Service received emergency calls around 23:15 last night.

The firefighters found smoke coming out of a first-floor flat window, which had also reached the communal hallway and a flat above where the fire had broken out.

Power to the tumble dryer had been turned off by one of the residents, so fire crews used a hose to extinguish the fire.  They also used a ventilation fan to clear the smoke and made sure nearby residents were ok.

The fire service hasn't yet released the exact cause of the fire.
