A dental examination on the body found in Handois reservoir has now been completed and Police say "on the balance of probabilities," it is Adrian Lynch. But they are unable so far to establish the cause of his death.
They say the dental test is not conclusive, so further DNA analysis is being done in the UK, and they need the results of that work before they can finally identify the body. The post-mortem examination has also now been completed, and no evidence was discovered of "trauma or third-party involvement."
The partially submerged remains of a body was discovered on Thursday morning by Jersey Water staff doing routine maintenance work at Handois.
Adrian went missing after a work party at the Merton Hotel on the night of Friday 4th December, and despite a massive search over the last eight months, no further trace of him was found. Police had searched Handois Reservois using specialist divers, dogs and sonar, but the body wasn't found.
The full police statement reads as follows:
"The post-mortem of the body recovered from Handois Reservoir yesterday has been conducted and concluded today.
The Home Office pathologist has been unable to establish a cause of death but has determined there are no signs of trauma or third party involvement.
The condition of the body is consistent with having been immersed in water for several months. Due to the condition of the body, toxicology testing is not feasible, however samples have been taken for DNA analysis in the UK next week for formal identification purposes.
A dental examination, by a forensic odonatologist has taken place, using the dental records of Adrian Lynch for comparison, they have indicated on a balance of probabilities that they match, however cannot be conclusive.
Consequently, formal identification can still not be made at this time. Further information will be released when available."
