Battle of Flowers “stalwart" urgently appeals for float-building space

Monday 14 January 2019

Battle of Flowers “stalwart” of 60 years, St. Clement, may not be able to enter this year's competition if parishioners can't find somewhere to build their float by the end of this week.

Constable of the Parish Len Norman has urgently appealed to the Battle of Flowers Association for help to find an appropriate “covered space” - or the serial winners of the parade may be prevented from entering the 2019 festival altogether.

A letter was sent from the Constable on Friday detailing the Parish’s “urgent” request for help in finding a space.

Constable Norman wrote to the Association to inform them that, “despite best efforts of all involved, we have been unable to find accommodation to build a Battle of Flowers exhibit for 2019."

St. Clement won second place at the 2018 parade with their float called ‘Into the Woods.'

The letter to the Chairman of the Association continues: “As you know, we have been a stalwart of Battle for 60 years and have always been able to support ourselves and rarely, if ever, had to ask for any significant assistance from yourselves.”

The Constable then asks for the Association to “support” the Parish “by providing the covered space we need."

“This is now urgent," the Constable continues, “...If we do not have certainly by... January 18, 2019, we will very regrettably have to make the decision not to enter the 2019 festival.”
