A 61-year-old with a love of all things Star Wars will be jumping out of a plane next month to raise money to help Acorn continue its working helping islanders with disabilities into employment.
Val Gavey is one of the social enterprise's longest serving employees.
She works on several projects including sorting scrap metal for recycling and weeding on the allotment with what colleagues describe as her "Darth Vader fork".
According to Acorn Training and Development Co-ordinator Tim Le Breuilly, she is “a die-hard Star Wars fan who enjoys a pint in the Dolphin when she isn’t abseiling or jumping out of planes, which is becoming quite a habit!”
In fact, Val has done six skydives before - but never before to raise money for Acorn.
Explaining why she is doing the skydive, she commented: "I am doing a skydive for Acorn Reuse because I love it here.
"It's good fun."
