Volunteers wanted for residential home's Battle of Flowers float

Tuesday 30 July 2024

Three residents of a local care home are looking for volunteers to help decorate their wheelchairs so that they can be involved in this year's Battle of Flowers parade.

Stanley Baudains, Irene Hamon and Dina De Jesus from Jersey Cheshire Home are hoping to make their way down Victoria Avenue in a few weeks time in brightly lit and colourfully decorated electric wheelchairs.

The residents are seeking creative volunteers from the community to transform their wheelchairs to fit the theme: ‘Party Time at Jersey Cheshire Home’.

Stanley, Irene and Dina are set to take part in both day and night parades on the 9 and 10 August.

Those who contribute to the project will have the chance to collaborate with the residents and share creative ideas.

Jersey Cheshire Home CEO Donna Abel said: "We are incredibly proud of our residents who are participating in the Battle of Flowers parade.

"This event is a wonderful platform to showcase their creativity and promote inclusivity within our community.

"We look forward to cheering them on along the Avenue as they join in the festivities."

Jersey Cheshire Home is a registered charity and the only facility on the island that specifically caters for adults with disabilities.
