Islanders are being urged to learn how to restart a heart after Danish footballer Christian Eriksen’s sudden collapse at a Euros 2020 match over the weekend. St. John Ambulance shares what you need to know...
The former Tottenham attacking midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest around 40 minutes into his national team’s game against Finland and had to receive urgent medical treatment on the pitch.
Fortunately, the 29-year-old is now said to be recovering in hospital, and has apparently shared a “smile and laugh” with teammates.
Sarah Harman, CEO of Jersey’s leading first aid charity St. John Ambulance, said what happened showed the importance of learning heart restarting techniques.
“You don’t need to be a football fan to have been affected by the events at Finland vs Denmark match,” she said.
“CPR saves lives and its one of the most important first aid techniques that everyone should know, and can still be done safely despite covid.
“St. John Ambulance Jersey offer a variety of work based and community courses, including the use of AED and pediatric courses for people with young children.”
Courses can be booked on the charity’s website. See below how to carry out CPR and use a defibrillator.
