Firefighters were the ‘only hope’ for Obi after the pup’s doggy paddling left him in a sticky situation yesterday.

The dog had been enjoying a walk in St. Catherine’s woods during the afternoon when he decided on a dip in the reservoir.

After making confident strokes across the water, he became “distressed and tired”.

Obi then climbed out and his harness got caught in the undergrowth.

His owner, Naomi Cohen, called Jersey Fire and Rescue, and their Green Watch team headed to the scene.

As they arrived, Obi managed to get free and make his way to the bank, but got stuck there.

Donning water rescue equipment, the pup patrol pair retrieved Obi from the other side and carried the dog across the water.

With his owner in sight as the duo came ashore, Obi barked as he was returned – a little chilly, but safe and well.

Naomi confirmed earlier today: "Obi is safe and well and was totally ravenous when he got home."

The rescue mission was captured on camera and shared on Jersey Fire and Rescue’s Facebook page, generating hundreds of likes and many comments praising Green Watch.

“Thank you, where would we be without your expertise?” one islander wrote.

Another joked: “Well done you guys. Nice smelly water too. Obi, I bet you’re in the dog house now!”
