WATCH: Frontline workers join Jerusalema dance craze

Police, vaccinators, track and tracers, café workers, and even Battle Bee have come together to perform a viral dance and put a smile on islanders’ faces.

Maple Rock Studios released Jersey’s take on the Jerusalema dance craze last night.

The challenge involves performing a dance to the gospel-influenced song Jerusalema by Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode.

It rose to popularity when a group in Angola recorded themselves dancing to the song while eating without dropping their plates.

Versions of dance have since been performed by the Irish Police Force, the Gardaí, and closer to home by Greenacres care home in Guernsey and airline Aurigny.

Jersey’s attempt was result of an approach to Maple Rock Studios by Vicki Birch and Colin Stanier from the island's Track and Trace team, who had the “fantastic idea to get together different groups in our community.”

After weeks of preparation and learning dance moves, the result was an expertly choreographed boogie by the States of Jersey Police at Corbière, contact tracers in an open field (featuring cows as back-up dancers), covid-19 vaccinators at Fort Regent, the Battle of Flowers team at West Park, and Kismet Cabana workers at Ouaisné.

Their efforts were then caught on camera by Chantelle Mundy, Cameron Aird, Marc Le Cornu and James Bailey.

Premiering the video yesterday, Maple Rock said: “Thank you to every single person in our community and every industry who are fighting at the moment for our community.”
