A Jersey dad's bid to make gaming more accessible for his daughter with special needs has received a 'shout-out' from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as part of their campaign to spread ‘good’ news.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made special mention of Rory Steel’s efforts to adapt a gaming controller for his daughter, Ava, on their Instagram page – an accolade the tech-savvy father described as this month’s “randomness."

It comes after a video of Ava - whose rare genetic disorder, HSP, limits her motor skills – enjoying playing with her new controller went viral on Twitter.

The Duke and Duchess wrote: “This month, we continue on the good news path and are pleased to be following [another account] as a reminder of all the good that is happening in the world. We hope it uplifts and inspires you!”

Amidst the good news stories from around the world in a compilation made by an account called ‘Tank’s Good News’ is a picture of a smiling Ava as she uses the accessible games controller for the first time.

It bears the headline: "Dad makes special Nintendo Switch controller so his daughter with disability can game like a pro."

Reacting to the royal mention, Rory tweeted: “My wife and I were joking about what randomness March would bring.

"Well, here you go… an Instagram mention from Harry and Meghan.”
