Watersplash closes for a "long overdue facelift”

Monday 08 January 2024

A popular bar and nightclub on the Five Mile Road has closed “for a long overdue facelift” after facing “a difficult year” – with a new look and a full lineup of events in the pipeline for 2024.

The Watersplash shared a social media post informing customers that they will be reopening the "revitalised bar and diner" on Thursday 8 February.

General Manager Piers Dupoy said that the nightlife industry had experienced challenges in 2023 but that he was looking forward to the coming year, with 15 indoor club nights planned as well as outdoor DJ parties on the terrace on Sundays throughout the summer.

“Almost every Saturday we have a festival, bands, DJs, surf competitions, family events or fundraisers organised," he added.

“We also have a new event space, which has proved very popular for private parties.

"We converted the entrance end of the club, so it is a games room, with pool tables and table tennis.”

Reflecting on the past year, Mr Dupoy said: “2023 was a difficult year for the nightlife economy of Jersey, and the UK, and the weather hampered a lot of our outdoor events during the summer.

"However, we had some incredible events.”

For example, the venue hosted the Peas & Glove festival in May to celebrate the life of Olly Newman who passed away earlier this year after left paralysed after a car accident in 2014.

Other events included an 80s-themed surf festival in June, a white-collar surfing event in August, and electronic music festival 'Off Grid' in the same month.
