"We're 'hear' for you"

Sunday 17 July 2022

Islanders who hit on hard times are being reminded that there is always an ear available to listen.

This month, Jersey Samaritans are reminding the public that its volunteers are here around the clock to offer a listening ear to anyone who is struggling to cope through their annual Talk to Us awareness campaign.

As part of the campaign, which takes place throughout July, branches across the UK and Ireland will mark Samaritans Awareness Day on Sunday 24 July, to help spread the message that volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to listen to anyone who is struggling.

On Saturday 23 July, from 10:00 to 16:00, the Jersey Branch volunteers will be at the Co-op Grande Marche in St. Helier to encourage the community to reach out if they need to.

Speaking about next weekend's event, Jersey Samaritans Branch Director, Alison Farley, explained: “[The team] will be chatting to the community to raise awareness of its emotional support service and encourage people to get in touch if they need support. Members of the local community are invited to come and talk to volunteers to find out more about the branch and its work in the local area too.

“It's been a challenging few years and we know that many people are still facing all kinds of pressure, however, we want to remind the public that they are not alone.

"It doesn’t matter how great or small the problems feel, our volunteers are here at any time of day or night, whatever they are facing.”

Anyone can contact Samaritans for free at any time and from any phone (even a mobile phone without credit) on 116 123, or you can email jo@samaritans.org. You can also visit their website for more information.
