Some people complain about older drivers, and others think its kids on the road who are most likely to cause an accident.
But the latest official statistics suggest the real answer as to what age you are most likely to be involved in a car accident probably lies somewhere in the middle.
In response to a request under the Freedom of Information Law, Jersey Police have published the statistics which show the age of drivers involved in road traffic collisions.
So the info suggests the most dangerous time is between 40 and 60, rather than in your teens or later years. But as ever with statistics, you need to tread carefully - although there are way more car crashes involving people who are 'middle-aged', there are also far more people in that age bracket on the roads in the first place
Here's how the ages of local drivers breaks down:
So, many more drivers in the middle age bracket, which equals many more accidents. And of course, there is no data published for how long each group of drivers actually spends on the road, which would be another factor - or if there are more males/females. It looks like the debate as to who is the safest driver has a few more miles to run yet.
