Could you give "happy chappy" Riley a new home?

Monday 22 May 2023

The JSPCA is looking for someone who will adopt Riley, a 'paws-itively' delightful 9-year-old German Spitz – who they say is "always smiling", but hasn't found a permanent home yet.

Riley, who sports a fabulous fluffy coat that needs daily grooming, arrived at the animal shelter when his elderly owner couldn't take care of him anymore.

He was adopted by a family but had to leave because he wasn't comfortable around young children. The JSPCA is now looking for a permanent home for Riley.

They say he would need a home with children aged 10 or over, and he cannot be rehomed with other animals.

Riley can be left alone for up to four hours, according to the animal charity.

"Riley is a very happy chappie – always smiling! He enjoys the sound of his own voice and will use his bark when he gets excited, especially when he sees his canine carers," the JSPCA team said.

"He is a German Spitz which is a breed that is in the Spitz family originally used for herding and guarding which they are good at as they are very aware and bark when anything alerts them.

"Riley is full of energy and loves his walks and hanging out and relaxing with his human friends. He is very smart and enjoys learning new things."

Anyone who is interested in adopting Riley can fill in the JSPCA's online form.

Prospective owners will need to provide proof of address for the last two months and the landlord's permission, if they live in a rented home.
