Women's footie boss confident of another Muratti win

Friday 15 May 2015

He might be new to the job but Jersey's Women's Football boss is confident the Reds will be lifting the Muratti Vase again after this weekend's big match at Footes Lane.

They've won 12 of the 18 inter-island clashes so far and Simon Petulla says his team is all set for another victory on Sunday.

Simon said: “We’ve been training together with the Island Games in mind for the last three or four months now and have cut the squad down to 18 for the Muratti.

“If everything goes according to plan, we should win. We’ve prepared really well so I’m very confident we can win."

"I’m really looking forward to it. Obviously they’ve won the last five or six so I want to make sure I’m prepared and we come away with a win."

The team certainly look ready if last weekend's comfortable 5-1 win against the RAF is anything to go by - a match in which Jersey dominated throughout.

The Muratti squad includes:

  • Forwards: Rosie Corbett and Catarina Andrade;

  • Midfield: Fiona MacKinnon, Libby Barnett, Eve Watson, Marta Ascensao, Lara Couvert, Jess Vieira and Jodie Botterill;

  • Defence: Lauren Quemard, Sophie Botterill, Kelly Hughes, Aimee Le Quelenec, Candice Parsons, Michelle Bichard and Sylie Spinola;

  • Goal Keepers: Sara Luce and Chantelle Audrian.

The match kicks off at 1.30 pm on Sunday at Footes Lane in Guernsey.
