Teenage singer from Jersey clinches national unsigned award

A local singer-songwriter has proved he's in tune with his fans after being voted Britain’s Best Unsigned Male.

Nineteen-year-old Jordan Burrows beat thousands of other acts around the UK to clinch the title at the 2014 Unsigned Music Awards.

The Jersey-born signer has been writing and recording his own songs since he was 14 but never expected to win the online vote.

Jordan said: “I only found out at about 10 pm last night as I was out on my friend’s boat all day and had no contact with the outside world.

“It’s pretty shocking to be honest, it’s pretty nuts, it means a lot – a lot of people in Jersey got behind me, I don’t really believe it at the moment.”

The awards were hosted by Best of British Unsigned (BoB Unsigned). Co-founder Matt Graveling said: “The UK produces the best musicians in the world and we get to play them before anyone else! The UMAs are the much needed recognition that these musicians need in order to realise just how good they are."

Jordan has played across music venues and clubs in London, at Jersey Live, and on a UK tour organized by La Motte Street Youth Centre. He has a few private gigs lined up and is now focusing on recording an album.

He hopes to go to London one day to further his career.
