READER LETTER: Why aren't more shoppers wearing masks?

I am staggered that I still see many folk walking around and shopping without face masks and gloves, and sadly they are folk of certain age groups.

Surely it is time for the States to pass a law that folk cannot enter any supermarket, corner shop or chemist etc. without wearing 'PPE'?

Business owners should lawfully be able to turn these people away until they do wear 'PPE'.

Please everyone help us all to fight this virus.

PPE approved masks are not currently available to the general public and require stringent training in their use.Non PPE masks, such as cloth masks do not provide the same protection to either the user or protect others, although they may imbue a false sense of security in the wearer and potentially attract adhesion to virus particles through humid breath on their permeable surfaces, which cannot contain exhalation in a cough or sneeze. They are not approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

There is little evidence if any to support the wearing of masks by the fit and well general public as has been previously commented upon. My observation is that those who do wear masks have little or no idea regarding aseptic technique etc. and as a result become more of a hazard to others. Even more disturbing is the number of these masks that I now see littered around the Island. I sincerely hope that no such law that has been suggested is given consideration at all.

I believe there were 12 active cases as of the weekend. Forcing everybody to wear a mask is rather over the top.
