In the United Kingdom the anniversary is due to be commemorated by a programme of events that encourages people to remember the huge sacrifices made by the Second World War generation.
As part of these commemorations, UK Government buildings are being asked to fly the Union Flag at full mast until 20:00 to mark Victory over Japan Day.
Pictured: As the pandemic restrictions severely restricted the proper commemoration of the 75th anniversary of V E Day on 8 May, the Bailiff Richard McMahon said it is even more appropriate that this occasion be recognised now that we can go out and see flags flying.
There will also be a two minutes’ national silence at 11:00 to remember the sacrifices and triumphs of this generation.
Guernsey’s Bailiff Richard McMahon has asked for the Union flag to be flown locally in order to join in with these commemorations.
At 11:00, islanders are invited to join the rest of the British Isles in observing a two-minute silence to remember those who gave their lives fighting in the Second World War, particularly in the Far East, which includes servicemen and -women from our own Bailiwick.
