Islanders will get the chance to meet local authors at Guernsey’s first Book Fest on Sunday.

Supported by the island’s Literary Festival, 12 local authors and publishers will gather at La Vallette Bathing Pools, alongside a Writers’ Hub for aspiring writers.

Co-organiser Jenny O’Brien said: “Writing can be a solitary business, so it’s wonderful to bring so many local authors together under one roof.

“We’d love islanders to come along, meet us, and discover how many great books are being written right here in Guernsey.”

Organised by Guernsey Books, a group of island authors, the event runs from 10:30 to 13:30 and gives readers the chance to browse and buy books, have copies signed and meet the people who wrote them.

Co-organiser RJ Verity said: “We wanted to create a relaxed, friendly event where readers and writers can simply meet and talk about books. Whether you’re a keen reader or looking for a Christmas present with a local connection, we hope you’ll pop in on Sunday morning.”

The line-up spans historical fiction, thrillers, fantasy, local history and children’s books.

Several authors will also give short readings from their work during the morning.

Claire Allen, Director of the Guernsey Literary Festival, said: “We’re delighted to support the first Guernsey Book Fest. There’s so much talent in the island, and it’s wonderful to see more opportunities to celebrate local writing.

“Events like this also help inspire the next generation of writers, giving people the chance to connect with Guernsey’s writing community and discover how they can get involved.”

Aspiring writers are welcome too, with the Writers’ Hub offering writing tips and information about local groups, workshops and other opportunities for writers in Guernsey.

Entry is free.
