The States of Alderney have officially endorsed the message that Guernsey’s Government sent to the UK earlier this week, which highlighted “the humanitarian situation in Gaza”, and the Island’s commitment to “upholding the principles of International Law”.
Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez sent a letter to the United Kingdoms Prime Minister, after 12 Guernsey Deputies had urged the Islands Chief Minister to “use her voice”.
Guernsey wasn’t alone, with the other Crown Dependencies also contacting high ranking UK government officials.
The Isle of Man’s Chief Minister, Alfred Cannan MHK, wrote to the Lord Chancellor, the Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood MP, and Jersey’s Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham, sent a letter to UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
All three of these recognised the suffering taking place in Gaza, the ongoing humanitarian crisis, and called for an immediate end to the conflict, urgent humanitarian relief, and adherence to international law.
Sir Keir Starmer recently confirmed the UK aims to recognise the state of Palestine from September in the United Nations, aligned with plans from French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron.
