Next Wednesday will be St Martin’s residents last chance to have their say on the proposed development plans for the parish.

The list of potential suggested updates, renovations, and developments encompass transport, leisure, and community initiatives and try to tackle the housing requirements in the parish.

Hotels have been suggested for renovation or redevelopment as dwellings, and there are plans in place for the development of a ‘Heart of the Community’ park.

St Martin’s Parish representatives say the process was launched “following concerns about government proposals for new affordable housing sites under the Island Development Plan Review in 2024”.

They believe Parishioners felt strongly that a coordinated, community-led voice was needed.

They’ve confirmed the process has already brought in more than 200 suggestions, with more than 7% of the parish’s adult population contributing their views.

If adopted, the St Martin’s Community Plan could become the ‘Supplementary Planning Guidance’ under the Island Development Plan. The parish said this would give parishioners a direct influence on how future development is managed.

Graham Winn, Chairman of the St Martin’s Community Plan Committee, said: “This plan reflects the passion and priorities of our parish. It is not just about housing, it’s about our quality of life, our green spaces, and our community identity.

Mr Winn continued: “We encourage all parishioners to take part in this consultation so that the final plan truly represents the voice of St Martin.”

Anyone looking to have their input on the plans has until 17.00 on Wednesday 8 October.
