Skybus has cancelled a number of flights to and from Alderney over the coming week because of “unexpected staff sickness”.

The airline, which runs Alderney’s commercial flights for Aurigny, said “several” flights to and from Guernsey and Southampton have been cancelled “up to and including 16 October”.

Stuart Reid, CEO of Skybus, apologised, saying that “an unprecedented level of crew sickness has impacted our ability to complete Aurigny’s full schedule over the next few days”.

“We recognise that the level of service provided by Skybus at present neither meets Aurigny’s expectations nor the needs of the community,” he added.

“We remain committed to working closely with our colleagues at Aurigny to improve the reliability of the service we provide.”

Aurigny has denied that all flights have been cancelled – confirming that a “majority of the airline’s planned schedule is expected to operate”.

“As the community would expect, Aurigny is working to minimise the impact on passengers wherever possible,” the airline said.

“Unfortunately, the late notice provided by Skybus has impacted our ability to respond as promptly as customers rightly expect. However, all those impacted are being contacted either directly by the airline or the responsible Travel Agent for bookings made through third parties. Wherever possible, alternative transportation will be offered.”
