Aurigny says its Alderney Medevac service is fully functional again.

The airline has carried out successful trials with its new Twin Otter leased aircraft, with a few teething issues resolved.

The service uses Skybus Twin Otter aircraft, which started replacing the old Dorniers on the inter-island route last November.

At that point Aurigny had warned the switchover could see some disruption as necessary changes to the service were made.

That prediction was proven right last week, when two flights had to be cancelled for Medevac trials to be carried out on Thursday 5 March. The remaining Twin Otter was hit with technical issues the following day.

With Friday’s flights also cancelled, Aurigny organised three alternative services to move passengers between Alderney and Guernsey, offering boat transfers operated by Buzz White, while Skybus sent a replacement aircraft to help provide cover.

Philip Saunders, the Chief Commercial Officer, said the Alderney-Guernsey route will benefit from the changes that have now happened.

“The Twin Otter is clearly going to strengthen Aurigny’s performance on the Alderney ‘lifeline’ routes for the future.

“We will continue to step up our efforts throughout the year for customers in Alderney.

“On the commercial side, we strive to make our Alderney services ever more attractive. As a result, I am pleased to announce that through fares from/to Alderney across the entire Aurigny network are now available, which will make travel more straightforward than ever. And next week, we will launch a special promotional offer exclusively on services to and from Alderney.”

While focussing on the new Medvac services from the island, and the trials using the Twin Otter aircraft, Mr Saunders commented: “Providing a dependable and timely Medevac service is always Aurigny’s first and overriding priority.

“Having this service fully up and running represents an important milestone for Aurigny and Alderney. This is a truly invaluable service for the people of Alderney. We fully appreciate our responsibility to provide a reliable and robust service into the future.”
