Alderney Sailing Club picked a new Commodore last week, after Ellis Downes was unanimously elected at the club’s AGM to replace the outgoing Commodore Nigel Vooght, who had been in the role for three years.
Mr Downes, who has been a club member for 30 years, moved to the island a year ago after previously having a holiday home on island.
He said, “I have experienced dingy sailing and sailing holidays and I also own a motorboat and enjoy exploring the Channel Islands and France.
“And now that I am semi-retired, I look forward to improving my sailing skills.”
Mr Downs added,”Working with my brilliant new committee, I look forward to encouraging more water-based activities, increasing our membership and continuing the friendly warm atmosphere of the Sailing Club.”
