A schoolgirl has completed a personal challenge this summer, by swimming in the sea every day for 100 days.
Alice Miller set about doing this in May, and she completed her final swim yesterday.
The 12-year-old decided to set herself the challenge to raise money for the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers, “because I am passionate about the natural world and love Guernsey’s environment”.
“I am happy it’s coming to an end as it’s been a long challenge and tough to keep to the daily routine during the holidays,” said Alice. “But I’ve really enjoyed doing it and I’ve discovered a love for daily sea- swimming. I especially enjoyed when others joined me including the many volunteers from GCV.”

Alice initially wanted to raise £500 for the GCV, but she had collected more than double that by the time she had finished her 100th swim yesterday.
Angela Salmon, Operations Director of GCV, praised Alice’s efforts.
“GCV is a small charity that relies on donations and Alice has done an amazing job in raising funds that will support our conservation work,” she said. “Well done to Alice on completing this very long challenge and thank you for choosing GCV!”
Since May, Alice has swum at least 100 metres in the sea every single day—rain or shine.
The location has varied with some swims at the bathing pools, and some on the sandy west coast including during one of this summer’s Balcony Gigs at Cobo.

Alice was accompanied by family, friends, and members of the GVC for yesterday’s final swim at Vazon.
Ms Salmon was among those who joined her.
“It was great to join Alice on her 100th swim. She set herself a target of raising £500 for the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers and she’s more than doubled that amount which is amazing. Thank you to everyone who has supported Alice by swimming with her or by donating to her challenge. Well done and thank you to Alice, this is an amazing achievement!”
