A 12-year-old girl who is aiming to swim 100 metres every day for 100 consecutive days has made it more than half way, while smashing her fundraising target.

Alice Miller set herself the challenge earlier this summer – hitting the 50 day mark last week.

She had set out to raise £500 for the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers, but she’s already collected more than £700 in donations to help protect and restore the island’s natural habitats.

Alice has been swimming at The Bathing Pools on school days and every Sunday at 16:00 she takes the plunge at Cobo, where she is joined by family, friends, members of the public and some of the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers.

“It feels quite rewarding and some days have been tough going,” said Alice. “But I also feel a little sad as my challenge is halfway to the end.”

The GCV said the response to Alice’s challenge has been overwhelming, showing how one determined young person can make a big impact.

“Alice is an absolute star!” said Angela Salmon, the GCV Operations Director.

“Her energy and determination to keep swimming every day is amazing. I’m so incredibly grateful to Alice for raising awareness of our natural environment and the support she’s generating for the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers.”
