More than 8,000 people have signed a petition calling for deputies to throw out GST, with more expected to sign in the next few days, according to its organiser.
The physical petition, which was organised by islander Chris Murray, had 8,237 signatures from islanders as of Saturday morning, as well as 203 from local businesses.

The petition will be presented to deputies on Wednesday morning before the crucial States’ debate on Policy and Resources’ (P&R) tax proposals, which include GST at 3%.
Opponents of the unpopular tax will hope the size of the petition demonstrates to politicians that a large number of people oppose GST, despite claims from some supporters that only a small, ill-informed minority oppose the sales tax.
