A woman in a straw hat stands on a yellow, sandy beach on a sunny day. A line of palm trees to her left, the sea to her right and a large rock and the town of Alicante in the background.
Alicante was one of the summer sun destinations Aurigny flew to in recent years.

Guernsey’s airline will not be flying to sunny destinations in Europe this year, so it can focus on “bedding in its new lifeline services”.

Aurigny has taken over the inter-island Jersey route after the collapse of Blue Islands in November last year, on top of its UK lifeline routes to London and Southampton.

In previous years the airline has put on weekly services to southern European hotspots such as Alicante, Porto, and Ibiza during the summer.

An Aurigny spokesperson said it wanted to “ensure holidaymakers have the information they need to start firming up their broader summer plans”.

While islanders won’t be able to fly directly to and from their beach holidays, the airline is putting on extra flights to Paris from April.

The spokesperson said the airline expected the flights to “help sustain the recent growth in French visitor numbers”.

Deputy Lee Van Katwyk, Economic Development’s Tourism Lead, said: “This expansion marks an exciting step forward, supporting the additional marketing VisitGuernsey is doing to promote the Islands of Guernsey to our closest mainland neighbour.”

One-way fares to Paris Charles De Gaulle start at £49.99.

FlyDirect

While Aurigny is not offering its ‘direct sunshine’ flights this year, the CI Travel Group is and says demand continues to grow for its services.

FlyDirect flights are planned to operate from Guernsey to Majorca, the Algarve, Ibiza, and the Costa del Sol on various dates from May onwards.

The winter 2026/2027 programme will be released in the spring.

Commenting when the flights launched, Robert Mackenzie, C.I. Travel Group’s Managing Director said demand has been “fantastic”.

“The continued support we receive from islanders for these direct flights has been fantastic and we are pleased to have been able to add a brand new route for Guernsey, along with making our direct flights more affordable for 2026, particularly for families.

“Ibiza has already proved popular with our clients in Jersey and the Isle of Man and we’re certain this will also be the case for Guernsey. The beautiful and diverse ‘White Isle’ offers something for everyone, from its famed nightlife to relaxed family holidays in tranquil resorts.”
